Wall Balls

The short of it: these are a TON of fun and a great way to change the pace up for some strength and conditioning, but only good if you have a large space/higher ceilings

Getting into the details, did you know there are many different types of exercises balls? What exactly is a “wall” ball?

A wall ball is made out of soft leather/composite material (generally speaking) and are usually much bigger than other balls of the same weight. For example, the 8 pound ball shown in the second picture is the same size as about a 20lbs medicine ball (the standard rubberized ones you see in hotel gyms).

Why is the wall ball designed this way? Well, as the name implies, this ball is great for throwing; at the ground, at walls, overhead, and even at other people! Just for exercise purposes, of course… 😉

One of the common uses for this is to do “windmill” type exercises. Take the ball overhead, rotate to the right and throw it on the ground, catch it, then rotate overhead, throw it on the left side, catch it, then rinse and repeat. You’re getting some great core engagement, as well as using the power from your legs and upper body to get full explosiveness on the throw.

The main reason you want to use this type of ball as opposed to the other types of balls for these types of exercises is because of the medium level of bounciness and the large size makes them more “forgiving”. The rubberized balls often bounce too much/are too hard to throw against something, whereas some of the tread balls/thin rubber balls are deadened so there is no bounce at all.

As said in “the short of it” section, these are great for someone who has large ceilings/a bigger space as they take some room to be able to use properly. They are also good if you like doing outdoor workouts.
