Busted up Rubber Hex Dumbbells

While searching through marketplace you may come across some rubber dumbbells that look like the ones in the picture. Cracking/gouges in the rubber heads, or in some cases, some/all of the rubber is completely gone. Are these worth buying?

Aside from the aesthetics (obviously these are not the prettiest), there are two main “issues” that these will have

1. Change of weight. This one is pretty negligible. For example, on the 50lbs pair, you might be losing a pound or two max by having that coating gone

2. Rusting. As the “core” of the head was not designed to be exposed to the elements, it will get quite a bit of rusting now that it is exposed

So, in other words, as long as you don’t care about the aesthetics, this can be a great way to find some dumbbells for cheap. Definitely do not pay the regular used pricing though! $0.50-$0.85/lbs is a good range to target, depending on how much or little of the rubber is left
