In this post we are talking about racks that are designed/intended for kettlebells only. NOT mass storage units or general purpose shelving… just kettlebell racks
I bring this differentiator because the mass storage systems (as we’ve reviewed previously) are great but not everyone has the space to be able to utilize them. Also, some people think these look better. I’d say if you have the space and budget, and have more than 3 kettlebells, its worth picking one of these up
Here are the key things that I think should be considered:
-Try to ensure it has some sort of lining on the shelf. You don’t want your bells rubbing on the bare metal
-Unless you are space constrained and thus can only get a certain size, I would get more storage space than you think you need. Kettlebells have a habit of multiplying, and by this I mean once you get a few you tend to want more! These racks are expensive so it’s better to get a larger one upfront than get the small one, run out of space, and have to sell at a loss to upgrade
-Consider the depth of the unit. If it’s too deep, it can be a bit awkward to maneuver when taking them on and off, even just having the smaller sizes on the top shelf
-Lip or no lip? By this, I mean do you want there to be an edging around each shelf. The first pic is of my home gym and I have one that has a lip… if I could do it over I would not get that. It makes it a bit awkward taking them on and off. Only reason I could see wanting a lip is if you have kiddos running around. BONUS: by not having a lip, you can also store some dumbbells on the rack (smaller sizes)
Pro tip: think through which kettlebells you might want to leave on the floor. As you can see in the first pic, I leave my monster bells on the floor. Partially because I don’t have room on the rack (yes, I learned the above tip the hard way), but also because they’re so dang heavy and awkward that I don’t want to have to mess around with trying to put them back on the rack after using them. I’d rather just be able to pick a spot on the ground and plop them down.
