This item is a hard one for me to speak on because there are a myriad of reasons why people like/don’t like these.
My thoughts: I think you should use these for two reasons:
- You’re on a budget and looking for a (relatively) cheap way to get some dumbbell work in
- You want to have some heavier dumbbells but don’t want to pay full price for them
The handles themselves work well, but they are a bit tedious to use, as you have to keep loading and unloading the weights, and can be a bit bulky/awkward if you try to put something like 25s on them. Some of my customers like to leave them set up for, say, 90lbs (4 10s on each side plus the 10lbs handle). Then they can just add 5s and 2.5s to go up as they need to.
Pros:
-Relatively cheap
-Sturdy construction
-Easily adaptable to fit your needs
Cons:
-Leads to extra time with loading and unloading
-Longer than normal hex dumbbells
-Awkward if you use plates bigger than 10s on them
Pro tip: if you do get these, make sure you get the thinnest 10s, 5s, and 2.5s. I recommend the black cap barbell brand. That way you can load em up heavy!
