The EZ Curl Bar

The one I have pictured is an Olympic (2”) style EZ curl bar, but this post is also applicable to standard (1”) style bars.

This bar is renowned for its characteristic “Z” style curves that make it great for getting different grips when doing arm curls. Anyone who has tried to do curls with a straight bar vs. the EZ bar will feel the difference it makes. That being said, are curls all this bar is good for?

Absolutely not! This bar is great for tricep work (skull crushers), shoulder work (overhead press with different grip orientations) and I have had several customers that say they also use it for bent over rows, light deadlifts, etc.

I would think of this bar as an excellent supplement to your straight bar, but I personally would not recommend only having this bar. If you had to choose only one, just a straight bar is the winner.

Another interesting tidbit about these bars is they actually come in different style curves! Some of them are bent very little (as shown in this picture) whereas others are bent at almost 90 degrees, and many variations in between! The different angles give you different grip options and new approaches for working your muscles.

The only real con to this bar, in my opinion, is that it is not rackable, but, it’s not really designed with that use in mind… just would be nice to not have to pick it up off the ground every time!
