No, this is not an amusement park ride, this is actually a highly functional piece of gym equipment for someone who is looking to do some body weight training.
The power tower enables you to do four main exercises with one machine:
-pull-ups
-dips
-leg raises (for your core)
-push-ups (with handles so it targets your muscles differently)
People generally buy this because:
-they want to have a machine they can do leg raises with (there’s not many other options out there that offer this functionality)
-they are looking for a machine that can do all of this in one unit. Yes, squat racks generally have pull-up bars, yes you can get separate dip stations/attachments, and you can buy push-up handles, but this is really the only way to get them all at once
With that in mind, does a power tower make sense for you to get for your home gym? Unless you fall into one of the two categories above, I don’t see a ton of value in having this machine. If you have extra room, it’s a great piece to have, but most of my customers like to get the squat rack attachments instead of getting a whole separate machine.
