These are a steel core plate that is coated in urethane for the finishing. As with most all York equipment, these are good quality plates.
We’re gonna make this one short and sweet.
If you love York equipment, or you like the way that these plates look aesthetically, which a lot of people do, then I would absolutely scoop these up if you can find them used for $1.25-$1.75/lbs
If you aren’t a particular fan of York, or aren’t obsessed with the look, then I’d definitely stay away from these plates.
The urethane coating lasts longer than a polyurethane or rubber coating, but it does not feel as good on the hands (in my opinion) and unless you’re dropping the shit out of these or using them in a commercial setting, you won’t really notice the difference in longevity. This design also has a bit of a bulge in the center, meaning they take up more space on the bar. If you’re looking for some sort of rubberized/urethane coated grip plate, I would look at GP’s or body solid. Those are going to be a bit thinner, feel a bit better, and have what I believe to be an overall cleaner design.
But, to each their own! Let the above information help you decide what’s right for you
