A basement home gym in Northville, MI gave Jason and Jas a place to train together at home, on their own schedule. Forged handled the whole done-for-you project, from design to install, so they did not have to research equipment, haul boxes, or build a thing.
At a glance
- Location: Northville, MI (basement)
- Who it is for: Jason and Jas, who both work from home and wanted to train there too
- The goal: One finished room in an unfinished basement, ready before the rest of the renovation
- Timeline: 18 days from first call to finished gym, including their vacation
- Investment level: A serious, low five-figure basement build
Before: An Unfinished Basement
Jason had a basement in Northville with bare concrete, plastic on the walls, and open ceiling joists. The rest of the renovation is still a year or two out.
The gym came first, on purpose. So we designed it, sourced it, delivered it, and installed it.
The Goal: A Real Gym for Two People
Jason booked his own call on a Thursday night. By noon the next day he and Jas were on the phone with us, talking through what they wanted the room to become.
Then Jason asked a question we love. Can we come see the equipment in person?
He was in our Novi showroom that same afternoon. The day after, we walked their basement. Right after that visit, Jason brought Jas back to the showroom so she could put her hands on everything too. No guessing. No buying off a picture.

The Blueprint: We Design It First
Before we move a single piece, we design the whole gym. This is our Home Gym Design and Fit Blueprint.
For Jason, that meant a layout built around a structural post, a plumbing run, and two people who take calls all day. We measure the space to the inch, lay out every piece, and pick equipment that earns its spot. We plan the delivery and the install ahead of time too, so install day goes smooth.
Your room, measured and laid out to the inch.
The Blueprint is a paid design step. If you move forward with a build, the full cost goes toward your project.
Jason and Jas looked at the plan, took their anniversary trip, and gave us the green light the week after. We do not rush that part. The room has to feel right to both people using it.
Building the Basement Home Gym in Northville
This was a done-for-you project. You can see our home gym design and install process in full, but here is how it went for Jason:
- We designed the layout around the post, the plumbing, and how they train
- We picked the right equipment for the space
- We sourced and delivered every piece
- We installed it and walked Jason and Jas through the finished room
Jason's build included:
- A Forged Crucible rack with a full cable attachment package
- A dip attachment
- A 7 foot Olympic barbell and an EZ curl bar
- Black bumper plates
- A rubber hex dumbbell set from 5 to 70 pounds
- Weight storage racks and a bar holder to keep the floor clear
- A commercial treadmill
- Commercial-grade extra thick rubber flooring, wall to wall
Install day was a Tuesday. The crew arrived at 10 and was done by 4. Because Jason and Jas both work from home, we sequenced the loud work around their meetings. The flooring was cut flush to the wood posts, so their future drywall contractor has nothing to fight with later.
One specialty bench was back ordered. Instead of making the whole gym wait, the crew brought a bench from our showroom and will swap in the new one when it lands. Nobody trains next to a missing bench.
That evening we came back for the reveal walkthrough with both of them.
We can plan the same thing for your garage or basement, down to the inch.
After: A Finished Room in an Unfinished Basement
The gym is done. Clean seams, clear floor, and a room they can both use before the rest of the basement is even framed.
First call to finished gym: 18 days.
In Their Words
Jason posted this review the day after install:
The morning after install, he sent us one more line we may frame: "It's literally easier to get a gym installed than it is to get an electrician to come install 2 power outlets."
FAQ: Basement Home Gyms in Southeast Michigan
Do you install home gyms in Northville?
Yes. We design and install done-for-you home gyms across Southeast Michigan, within about 90 minutes of Novi, MI.
Can you build a gym in an unfinished basement?
Yes. Jason's basement was bare concrete with open joists. We cut the flooring so a future drywall contractor can finish the rest of the room without tearing anything out.
How long does a basement home gym install take?
Most Forged builds are finished in one to three days on site, after the design is set. Jason's was one day.
Will the install disrupt my workday?
We plan around it. Jason and Jas both work from home, so we scheduled the loudest work for the windows they were free.
